PHILADELPHIA, July 23 (Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD.N: Quote, Profile, Research), which is expected to acquire graphics chip maker ATI Technologies Inc. (ATYT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) (ATY.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) for about $5.5 billion, said on Sunday it would make a "significant corporate announcement" on Monday.

AMD, the No. 2 supplier of computer processors, plans to acquire ATI to help it fight for market share against larger rival Intel Corp. (INTC.O: Quote, Profile, Research), a source familiar with the situation previously told Reuters.

AMD Chairman and Chief Executive Hector Ruiz and Chief Financial Officer Bob Rivet would hold a conference call with investors on Monday. It did not elaborate about the details of the announcement.
